Arsenal hammers Pompey 4 - 1 at opening home game.

Arsene Wenger hailed Arsenal's "brilliant start" to the season following the 4-1 win over Portsmouth - but warned tougher challenges lay ahead.

Abou Diaby set the Gunners on their way to a convincing home victory on Saturday with a first-half brace.

Younes Kaboul pulled one back before the break - but a fluke from William Gallas and substitute Aaron Ramsey ensured a comfortable finish as Arsenal made it three wins from three.

Celtic come to the Emirates on Wednesday night for the second leg of their Champions League qualifier, before the next Premier League fixture away at Manchester United.

"We have had a brilliant start. It should create confidence and momentum," said Wenger.
"We now go into another week which will be another test against Celtic and then Manchester United.

"It looks to be exciting and interesting."

French midfielder Diaby marked his 100th game for the Gunners with an impressive display.

RIP: Les Paul Has Left The Recording Studio

Les Paul, famed musician and inventor, has passed away.

Les Paul, who invented the solid-body electric guitar later wielded by a legion of rock 'n' roll greats, died Thursday of complications from pneumonia. He was 94.

With Mary Ford, his wife from 1949 to 1962, he earned 36 gold records for hits including "Vaya Con Dios" and "How High the Moon," which both hit No. 1. Many of their songs used overdubbing techniques that Paul had helped develop.

As an inventor, Paul also helped bring about the rise of rock 'n' roll with multitrack recording, which enables artists to record different instruments at different times, sing harmony with themselves, and then carefully balance the tracks in the finished recording.

Wow, talk about changing the face of music. Good lookin', Les. Here's to joining that great jam session in the sky.

Real Life Duck Hunt Is Not THAT Real Life

This Duck Hunt game from Hammacher Schlemmer costs $30 and involves shooting a mechanical flying duck with an infrared gun. Plus, if your gun runs out of batteries you can still throw rocks at it. Just like our ancestors used to do!

A 10-second charge on the barrel of the gun energizes the mechanical duck for a 30-second flight. The duck's 6" long mylar wings flap up and down nearly 500 times per minute, and it can be set to fly in an erratic left- or right-turning circle or a level, straight line.
Sharp-eyed hunters take aim with the infrared gun--the first two hits merely stun the waterfowl, momentarily interrupting his flapping; the third hit downs the duck for good.

Wenger encouraged, Cesc calm

Arsene Wenger says Arsenal's 6-1 win at Everton will give them confidence against Celtic, while Cesc Fabregas is refusing to get carried away.

A squad already written off as lacking the depth and maturity to win the title could not have answered the critics in better fashion at Goodison Park.

Their mauling of Everton, who finished one place behind them last term, left no-one in any doubt to the Gunners' credentials.

Wenger's side have been considered the top four's weakest link, with the financial muscle of Manchester City, as well as Aston Villa and Tottenham, already massing to overhaul them.

The relative paupers of Everton also had top-four aspirations, backed up by their renowned energy and fighting spirit.

So to be so totally outplayed in their own intimidating backyard came as a shattering humiliation.

Arsenal's display will have sent a shockwave through Celtic, too.

Gunners demolish Everton on Opening day

Arsenal produced a stunning opening-day performance to crush Everton 6-1 at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

The Gunners exposed Everton's frailties in defence and the hosts' lack of depth.
The last time Everton lost 6-1 at home was back in 1958, and Arsenal did the damage that time as well.

Their passing, movement and finishing left Everton in shreds, and the north Londoners were three up at the break through Denilson, debut defender Thomas Vermaelen and his centre-back colleague William Gallas.

The Musical Kettle, designed by Naoki Kawamoto, has some sort of electronically controlled flute attachment that allows the device to play a song instead of just a boring whistle when the water is boiling.

Fisticups: Because I'm Not A Morning Person.

Sure we've already seen brass knuckle inspired coffee receptacles in the past, but, quite frankly, those ones didn't look as good (I did like the blood splatter though). Now the Fisticup from Fred (available mid-September for around $15) -- this is a coffee mug I can really sink my fingers into.

Light Graffiti: The LED Spraypaint Can.

Halo is an LED spraypaint can by French designer Aissa Logerot. Basically, instead of spraying paint (which, kids, you shouldn't huff), it has an LED that sprays light!

the LED light can change colors and brightness on the fly and while it's powered by an internal battery that can be charged by shaking of the can.

"Graffiti artists can conserve their own gesture they have with an aerosol spray. It is possible to change the color and the brightness of the led to change the graffiti's styles. If the light doesn't have enough battery, the user must shake it to have energy again."

Bordeaux striker Chamakh losing sleep over Arsenal.

Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh is so desperate to join Arsenal that he is losing sleep over the move, which has stalled becuse the English Premier League club is refusing to meet the French team's asking price.

Bordeaux has already turned down an offer of about $10.8 million from Arsenal for Chamakh, and so far has refused to sell him to other English Premier league teams such as Sunderland, Fulham and Tottenham.

"My priority is Arsenal, but there are other clubs. If it's Arsenal, so much the better," Chamakh said on Canal Plus television ahead of defending champion Bordeaux's opening match at home to Lens on Sunday. "I am not sleeping as well as I normally do. I made my wishes known to the directors at the end of last season. I expressed a wish to join another league."

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was reluctant to meet Bordeaux's initial asking price of $21.6 million because the 25-year-old Morocco forward only has one year remaining on his contract.
"I hope things will be sorted out, and that they will be sorted out very quickly. As much for Bordeaux's sake as for mine, my situation has to be clarified," Chamakh said. "I thought they (Bordeaux) would have made things easier for me."

Bordeaux coach Laurent Blanc does not want to lose Chamakh as he considers him crucial to Bordeaux's title defense.

He scored 13 league goals last season and grabbed Bordeaux's third goal Sunday in the 4-1 win against Lens. After the match, Chamakh reiterated his desire to leave and urged Bordeaux's directors to "change their minds" and let him go.

Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud said on Wednesday that he could grant Chamakh his dream move to Arsenal if Wenger comes back with a better offer. Triaud accepted he would lower his initial asking price, but did not say by how much.

Arsenal to face Celtic in Play-off Round.

Arsenal will face Celtic in this season's Champions League Play-off Round.
The draw took place in Nyon, Switzerland on Friday and saw the Gunners out of the hat second, meaning they will travel to Glasgow on Tuesday August 18 (19.45 KO) before hosting the Hoops on August 26 (19.45 KO).

Bordeaux want ‘agreement’ with Arsenal over Chamakh.

ARSENAL have been given fresh hope in their bid to sign Marouane Chamakh, after Bordeaux hinted they are ready to slash their asking price for the Morocco striker.

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has had a £6m offer rejected but is refusing to go higher for a player who will be able to leave for nothing in 12 months when his contract expires.

Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud had adopted a hard-line stance, demanding £15m for Chamakh, but, with the 25-year-old desperate to leave for the Emirates Stadium, is now showing signs of caving in.“It’s up to Arsene to see what he wants to do.

What I am hoping for is to reach a gentleman’s agreement,” said Tiaud. “It’s always been clear between Chamakh and us. If there is a team in the big four we will look at it. But on terms that are acceptable to Bordeaux.“It’s always tough to work out the value of a player. Sometimes the value corresponds to the number of clubs interested in him.

In this case there are several. The moment a player says: ‘I’ll go there and nowhere else’, it’s easier for Arsenal. Chamakh’s dream is to join Arsenal and that’s understandable. He’s grown up with our club, and we want to please him.”Triaud also revealed he wrote to Sunderland manager Steve Bruce to apologise, after saying the Black Cats, who were willing to pay more for the forward than Arsenal, were not a big enough club to sign Chamakh.

“When I saw Steve Bruce’s reaction – he said he didn’t understand and that we’d insulted Sunderland a bit,” Triaud added. “I sent him a little letter telling him that it was a misunderstanding and that we never said Sunderland wasn’t a respectable club. We expressed ourselves badly and we apologise. It’s a matter of courtesy.”

Arsenal Legend Bob Wilson Thinks Arsene Wenger May Add New Faces.

The former Gunners goalkeeper feels that the Frenchman may have a couple of things up his sleeve before the new campaign begins.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has enough high-quality players at his disposal to mount a successful challenge for a top four finish this season, according to former goalkeeping great Bob Wilson, but he may also make a swoop in the summer transfer market.
Speaking at the club's Members' Day at the Emirates, where he had been introducing the Gunners players to the crowd, Wilson felt there was sufficient quality already at the club for supporters to be able to enjoy the campaign ahead. He told Sky Sports News.
"When I introduced those 29 players today, I started thinking 'Hang on a minute, how desperate is the need for other players here?'""Having said that, Thomas Vermaelen has come in and he is the only newcomer, though Armand Traore's come back and Fran Merida's back, and, obviously you have the massive boost of Tomas Rosicky who missed a season, and then the brilliant and wonderful Eduardo [Da Silva] who is back on board.
"I think Arsene will add a minimum of one, possibly two. He has the money to do it."But you know, and I know, that he will just not go in for the sake of spending money."
