EPL: Arsenal vs Stoke City 3-1

Aaron Ramsey shields the ball

Arsenal went top of the Premier League with a handsome 3-1 win against Stoke City at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
New-signing Mesut Ozil lived up to his billing by supplying all three goals. His free-kick was spilled by Asmir Begovic for Aaron Ramsey to make it 1-0 after five minutes.

After Geoff Cameron had equalised, the German fired in the balls from which Per Mertesacker and Bacary Sagna headed home.

Nintendo Game Music And Sound Effects Played In Real Time By Player Piano And Robotic Percussionist

robotic-nintendo-sound.jpg

This is a video of a player piano and two robotic percussionists that can produce the music and sound effects for Nintendo games as the games are being played. It makes all the games sound like they're being played in a wild west style saloon. *moseys up to bar* Howdy partner -- I'll take a whiskey. *tries to spit in spittoon, drools on leg* WHY CAN I NEVER COWBOY?
This system allows for Nintendo gameplay audio to be played through an acoustic player piano and robotically controlled percussive instruments. The piano and percussion play live during actual gameplay, mirroring the sounds that would normally be created electronically. All audio, including music and sound effects, is translated in realtime so that it is produced by the instrument most closely resembling the characteristics of the original electronic sound.
Anyway, back to being a cowboy. I always wanted to grow up to be one when I was a kid. Everyone was always, "Aww, that's cute," but nobody had the decency to tell me the kind of cowboy I wanted to be doesn't really exist anymore. So you can imagine my surprise when there weren't any gunslinging or how to lasso outlaws from horseback courses in college. *eying dusty cowboy boots and hat in corner* Life isn't fair.

UCL: Marseille vs Arsenal 1-2

Aaron Ramsey celebrates

Arsène Wenger’s side secured a vital victory at Marseille on the opening night of Champions League Group F on Wednesday and, with it, extended the Club record for consecutive away wins into double figures.

The run started at Bayern Munich back in March on the evening of their exit from last season’s Champions League. And the subsequent wins at places like Swansea, West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle went a long way to securing their participation in this term’s competition.

My Little Pony Themed Ghostbusters Proton Pack

my-little-pony-proton-pack-1.jpg

Always thought Ghostbusters and My Little Pony were mutually exclusive? WELL THINK AGAIN, because here's a Pinky Pie themed proton pack. The pack features a whole bunch of lights and custom sound effects and was made by prop-buildier Judson Hudson for a lady friend of his which was a relief because I thought for sure this thing was going straight onto the shoulders of a brony.

And bronies, as I'm sure you're all aware, are grown men who weren't allowed to watch Saturday morning cartoons when they were kids and have decided to rebel against their parents later in life. Or at least that's how it was explained to me. Also, the oceans are blue because that's the color of whale shit.

Of all the sets that pass through the LEGO Cuuso website for potential manufacture, I feel like this Jurassic Park one actually stands a decent chance of seeing the light of day (links to voting page). Designed by user senteosan, the set features the iconic Jurassic Park gates, a Jurassic Explorer SUV, T-rex, and Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler and Ian Malcolm minifigs.

Yes Please: He-Man Masters Of The Universe LEGO Sets

he-man-lego-sets-1.jpg

This is a giant series of He-Man Masters of the Universe LEGO sets and minifigs made by LEGO pro Orion Pax (of LEGO Ghostbusters headquarters and Back to the Future Hill Valley fame). I would play with those for hours and if any kids asked to join I would let them, but they'd have to be Skeletor and the bad guys. I actually went to see the live action He-Man movie when it came out in '87 and fifteen minutes in the film got jammed and melted. I cried because I thought we weren't going to get to see the rest of the movie, but apparently they can just splice that shit back together. It just sucked because by the time they turned the lights back down I'd already finished 64-ounces of Hawaiian Punch and all my Sno-Caps and was swinging from the theater curtains.

Hit the jump for an overview of everything he made but do yourself a favor and check out Orion's website for a ton more pics if you're into this.

Happy Thoughts: NYC Children's Hospital Gives CAT Scan Room A Pirate Makeover To Help Kids Relax

pirate-cat-scan-room-1.jpg

Hospitals: they're terrifying. I can't even remember being in one as a child but probably because I've completely blocked out those memories along with the one of me pooping my pants while jumping on a tractor tire on the playground in kindergarten. Just kidding, that one will haunt me for life. I had to ask the teacher permission to go to the bathroom after the deed was already done, then took off towards the building using one hand to hold the load up in the back of my shorts so it wouldn't fall out. To this day I can still close my eyes and hear her and my classmates laughing while I ran, tears streaming. This is the new and improved pirate-themed CAT scan room at the New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital (or NYPMSCH for short but still pretty long).
"There aren't scary pirates -- there's a pussycat pirate and one that looks like Curious George," says Dr. Carrie Ruzal-Shapiro, chief of Pediatric Radiology. "The parents have been really positive too. It makes it less scarier for the kids."

"Kids who are sick know so many ways of distancing themselves from what is going on physically," says [Registered Nurse Naomi] Hawkins. "Much more than grown-ups do. I mean, we pay for yoga, it doesn't work. We're told if you can meditate you're smarter -- the children are the smartest."

It's true, children are the smartest. You might think adults are the smartest, but that's just your stupid getting in the way. The smartest person I know? Me. The second smartest? A kid. "Which one?" Uhhhhhh *pointing* that one -- that one over there. "That's a doll." You trying to say she's smarter than me?!

Living Cube Combines Entertainment Center, Bookshelves, Wardrobe, Walk-In Closet, Loft Bed

living-cube-1.jpg

So, what do you wanna do tonight? We can watch the TV or my jackets and shoes.

This is the Living Cube designed by Till Könneker. It's not actually alive though. It's FOR living, not living itself. Although I suppose the wood was alive once. Now it's dead. Tree bones. It combines the functionality of an entertainment center, bookshelves, an open wardrobe, walk-in closet and loft bed.

EPL: Sunderland vs Arsenal 1-3

Olivier Giroud celebrates

Mesut Ozil inspired Arsenal to a deserved, if controversial, win at Sunderland on Saturday.
The German midfielder set up Olivier Giroud’s early strike and then numerous chances for Theo Walcott in a dazzling first-half display.

Craig Gardner and Aaron Ramsey swapped goals in the second half before the key talking point of the game came after 70 minutes.

Ozil - I have the faith of the coach

Mesut Ozil

Arsenal's new signing, Mesut Ozil, has given an exclusive interview to DFB TV. Click here to watch the interview and read an extract below:

Why did you choose to move to Arsenal?

Firstly, I’m really looking forward to it because I have the faith of the coach. I had spoken to him at length on the telephone and he explained his plans and that he has faith in me and that is what I need as a player. I’m also looking forward to being on the same team as Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker. I’m looking forward to the new challenge there. I’ve already heard that they have super fans, the city is great and the team is fantastic and I’m really looking forward to that.

Arsène Wenger speaks very good German. Does that help?

Of course. Not just him but some of my national team colleagues are there and they will probably help me. I'm just looking forward to the new challenge.

Was the World Cup a factor in your decision?

Of course. Arsène Wenger will give me the trust to help me develop further. I want to be completely fit for the World Cup. I know what I can do and what potential I have. I could have established myself at any club. I know that because I'm convinced of my own ability. At Arsenal, I can feel that there is trust. I'm looking forward to the challenge. I will develop under my new manager and I'm looking forward to [playing in] the Premier League too. Wenger gives me the faith and I can develop further.

German International Mesut Ozil joins Arsenal

Mesut Ozil

German international midfielder Mesut Ozil has joined Arsenal on a long-term contract in a Club record deal.

Ozil, 24, joins Arsenal from Real Madrid where he made a total of 159 appearances in three years. During that time he won both La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

The attacking midfielder has been a long-term target and manager Arsène Wenger said: “We are extremely pleased to have signed Mesut Ozil. He is a great player, with proven quality at both club and international level. We have watched and admired him for some time as he has all the attributes I look for in an Arsenal player.

EPL: North London Derby: Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspurs 1-0

Wojciech Szczesny celebrates

Arsenal drew first blood in the battle for north London supremacy by beating Tottenham 1-0 at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Arsène Wenger’s side bossed the first half and deservedly took the lead in the 22nd minute when Olivier Giroud converted Theo Walcott’s cross.

It was more even in the second half but Wojciech Szczesny’s sternest test was when Jermain Defoe's shot deflected off Laurent Koscielny’s leg.
